"What degree programs and majors are available?"

"Are the programs in English or in Korean?"
Both English and Korean track programs are offered by many universities in South Korea. Some course majors are available in English, or English-Korean mixed. This means classes will include classes taught in English and other classes taught in Korean. However, a lot of the specialized majors are still only offered in Korean, and therefore to apply for this, you must first apply for a Korean Language Program in South Korea, preferably at the same university as your desired course major.
"What are the requirements for admission?"
• IELTS 5.5/iBT TOEFL 71/TEPS 600 for English Track programs;
• TOPIK level 3 or completion of Korean Language Program at the same university for Korean track
programs;
• Completion of High School education for Bachelor's Degree applicants;
• Completion of Undergraduate education for Master's applicants;
• Completion of Post-graduate education for Doctorate applicants.
"What is the Global Korean Scholarship (GKS) program?"
Global Korean Scholarship program is a fully-funded scholarship program offered by the Korean government to give international students the chance to pursue academic degrees at higher education facilities in Korea. This will increase international educational exchange and strengthen ties between Korea and the participating nations. This scholarship program is sponsored by the NIIED (National Institute for International Education Development).
"What programs can I apply to for GKS program?"
GKS program is available for both Undergraduate applications (March intake) and for Post-graduate applications (September intake).
"What is the maximum period of study if I get the GKS award?"
GKS provides its successful applicants with Korean Language Program before the start of their courses. The period of the Korean Language Program will be 1 year, and therefore the periods of study are as follows:
• 1 year KLP + max. 4 years for Bachelor's Degree applicants;
• 1 year KLP + max. 2 years for Master's Degree applicants;
• 1 year KLP + max. 3 years for Doctorate Degree applicants.
"What are the benefits of GKS award?"
Plane ticket, settlement allowance, monthly allowance, medical insurance, language training tuition fee, Korean Proficiency grants, and tuition fees.
"How do I apply for the GKS program?"
There are 2 ways (tracks) to apply for the GKS program: Embassy Track and University Track. For the Embassy Track application, you will be applying through the South Korean Embassy in your country first, and apply for 3 universities separately. If you're applying for the University Track, you can apply for only 1 university only. Which track is better will depend on your target course, target university, and of course your study motivation!
"What are the requirements for GKS program?"
-
A holder of citizenship of NIIED designated countries that are invited to take part in the GKS program;
-
Completion of High School education for Bachelor's Degree applicants; or Completion of Undergraduate education for Master's applicants; or Completion of Post-graduate education for Doctorate applicants.
-
Minimum 80% CGPA on a 100-point scale (top 20% within one’s class); or minimum equal to 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5 or 3.23/5.0.
-
Under 25 years of age for Undergraduate applicants; or under 40 years of age for Post-graduate applicants.
"What is the difference between applying for GKS program and for general university admission?"
The GKS program is very competitive, as thousands of academically excellent students apply every year. There are limited numbers of quotas each year for each country and for each track. If you are confident in your academic performance, extracurricular achievements, experience, and leadership qualities, you can definitely go for this path.
If you don't think the GKS path is right for you, don't worry! Intuition is highly experienced in general university admissions. This path is definitely less cutthroat, and therefore you only have to compete against the other applicants for your target university instead of applicants from around the world. Quotas for this path are also much higher in numbers and the requirements are not as strict as GKS requirements.
